Five Tips to Avoid Dehydration During a Summer Move

Have you noticed that the temperature is rising? If you are planning a move this summer, the number on your thermostat might be what you’re dreading more than the hassle of the move itself.

Unfortunately, a hot day can be more than just annoying during a move — due to the strenuous activity exerted during even local moving in Bucks County, PA, you and your family members may be at risk of dehydration while entering your new space. Use these five tips to help stay hydrated during your move!

  • Know the signs. Understanding the signs of dehydration can help you and your loved ones avoid injury while packing up and moving your home. Common symptoms of dehydration include fatigue, muscle cramping, dark urine, and intense headaches.
  • Drink water every 20 minutes. Having plenty of water available for movers can help keep you and those helping you move well-hydrated. Sipping water every 20 minutes is highly recommended.
  • Avoid strenuous moving when the sun is high. The sun’s rays are the strongest between the hours of 10AM and 4PM If possible, schedule your move for later in the afternoon or early in the morning to beat the heat!
  • Don’t be afraid to take breaks. Stopping for a breather can help give your body time to recover from the stress of a move. Taking a 15-minute break every hour is recommended during the hottest days, especially if you are breaking a sweat moving furniture or heavy boxes.
  • Avoid dehydrating beverages. Caffeine-laden beverages like coffee or soda can dehydrate you further, putting you at higher risk of experiencing dehydration. Alcoholic drinks also dehydrate you, so they should be avoided until the move is completed.

Working with a professional moving team places a much lighter burden on you and your loved ones during a summer move, and can help to keep you safer. Give Dan the Mover’s team of Bucks County movers a call today at  215-309-8222 for a free estimate!
